Recent Initiatives
Washington County Library is in the second year of our strategic plan. Recently completed projects and successes include:
With Extended Access, registered library cardholders can access Valley Library outside of staffed hours. Through the project, we increased access to the library 24 to 112 hours per week.
In a survey of pilot participants, 94 percent of respondents said Extended Access increased their use of the library, and 100 percent felt safe while using the library.
After evaluating streaming platforms and gathering input from staff, we signed a contract to offer video streaming service through Kanopy.
The service launched in February 2025, giving Washington County cardholders access to movies and TV shows using a ticketing system and providing unlimited children’s content through Kanopy Kids.
We are committed to making diversity, equity, and inclusion part of our everyday work. In 2024, our DEI work focused on internal staff training.
More than 80 percent of WashCoLib staff have completed the county's foundational DEI training, and all staff trainings, including our twice-yearly All Staff Training days, include a DEI component.
Library leadership and managers are focused on improving our employee experience. In 2024, library staff contributed to developing an employee retention strategy and a new process for onboarding Library Services Assistants (LSAs).
