[ARCHIVED] 6 online tools for a better back to school

Many students (and parents) might think of the library as just a place to check out books or find a quiet place to study.

And while we are excited about those offerings, Washington County Library also has a number of digital tools that can help students conduct research, study for tests, and get homework help from trained tutors. Below are six of our favorites!

A quick note – most of these tools require a library card to log in, so make sure you have your number handy before you get started.

High School (Gale in Context)

For high school students, use for both homework and in-depth research assignments to find articles, primary documents, creative works, and multimedia files. Check out these resources to get started: Fact Sheet, Interactive Tutorial, and Videos.

Explora Kids and Explora Teens

Explora Kids and Explora Teens offer searches for age-appropriate magazines, encyclopedias, and dictionaries. Explora Teens also includes primary source documents, reference books, and multimedia. Learn more with this Explora Kids Fact Sheet and Explora Teens Fact Sheet

LearningExpress Library

Students can take online practice tests, view tutorials, and find resources for school and career exams. Popular tests include the ACT, AP, GED, Nursing, Real Estate, TOEFL, and U.S. Citizenship. Get started with this help video

Homework HelpNow

Homework HelpNow offers free tutoring services for kids, teens, and adults available from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Both LearningExpress Library and Homework HelpNow are also great tools for online test prep.

Britannica Online Public Library Edition

Search Encyclopaedia Britannica content geared for all ages, including articles, primary sources, videos, images, interactive atlases, and more. We also have an Academic Edition and School Edition of Britannica Online for other older and younger users.
