Life at the Library

[ARCHIVED] It's National Library Week!

national library week 2019

This week, we’re excited to be joining libraries around the country in celebrating the ways libraries build strong communities by providing critical resources, programs and expertise.

April 7-13 is National Library Week, an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and communities. Libraries are at the heart of their cities, towns, schools and campuses. They have public spaces where people of all backgrounds can come together and connect.

There are several daily celebrations within National Library Week. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to see how we’re recognizing the work of libraries across the country:

  • Monday, April 8: The State of America's Libraries Report will be released, including Top Ten Frequently Challenged Books of 2018. See the titles and check one out to read!
  • Tuesday, April 9: National Library Workers Day is a day to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers. Check out some of the faces who make Washington County Library work.
  • Wednesday, April 10: National Bookmobile Day is a day to recognize the contributions of our nation's bookmobile. We’ll take a peek at the history of bookmobiles at Washington County Library.
  • Thursday, April 11: Take Action for Libraries Day is a day to speak up for libraries and share your library story. Use the hashtag #MyLibraryMyStory to share what the library means to you!

While we think it’s great to visit your library every week, if you stop by your favorite Washington County Library branch to say hello to the staff who work there you can also pick up a National Library Week bookmark.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. Thanks for celebrating with us!
