[ARCHIVED] How to use Lynda.com for free with your library card

You may have already heard of Lynda.com, an online education service that offers video tutorials for learning software, developing personal and professional skills, and creative art techniques.

What you may not know is that you access everything available in Lynda.com, including mobile apps, learning pathways, and more, entirely for free using your Washington County Library card!

You can sign in to Lynda.com through a link on our website on the Research Databases page, or by following this link. Once on that page, you’ll be asked to sign in using your library card number and PIN. You can create a simple profile by entering your name and email address, which allows you to keep track of the videos you’ve watched and saved.

Once you’ve logged into Lynda.com, you’ll have access to everything the service has to offer. Lynda.com has more than 144,000 videos, organized into over 3,500 courses on a variety of subjects. In addition to software programs, Lynda.com offers learning pathways on creative pursuits like photography, videography, and drawing.

Library users also have access to all of the Lynda.com apps that subscribers with a paid account can use. This includes desktop apps for Mac and Windows PCs and streaming TV services like Roku and Apple TV, as well as the Lynda.com mobile app for iOS and Android. These apps allow you to take your learning on the go, or download videos to watch offline.

Verifying your Lynda.com account on the mobile app takes a couple of extra steps. Here’s how to authenticate the app with Washington County Library:

  • Install and launch app on your device.

  • Select "Already a Member," then move from the Individual to Organization tab.

  • Type "www.co.washington.mn.us" under Web Portal and tap the Log in button.

  • Log in using your library card number and PIN.

You can learn more about Lynda.com, including basic navigation and information about learning pathways, in our tutorial video on Niche Academy: https://my.nicheacademy.com/washcolib/course/1399

Lynda.com is provided to Washington County Library users by the Metropolitan Library Services Association.
