Get ready to start celebrating Summer at Your Library at Washington County Library with kick-off celebrations at every library branch this Saturday, June 9. These events are open to all ages, and don't require registration. At the kick-off parties, you can see great performers, plan games, and pick up your game cards for our summer programs for kids, teens, and adults. Find out more about each celebration below, or click through to view them all in our online calendar.
9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Stop by Park Grove Library to play outdoor games, create chalk art, blow bubbles, and sign up for Summer Adventure at Your Library. We’ll have two special activities during the day. From 11 to 11:45 a.m. Bruce the Bug Guy will present a lively, hands-on program about insects and related arthropods. Live critters and other fun props give you the chance to experience these fascinating creatures in a close-up, interactive manner. From 1 to 2 p.m., join us for a special summer-themed storytime and craft for the whole family!
10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Come watch this amazing Mongolian family circus featuring acrobatics, juggling, balancing, hula hoops and more! After the circus, join us in the courtyard at Hardwood Creek Library for some giant yard games and other fun activities!
10:30 to 11 a.m.
Celebrate the kick-off of Summer at Your Library with Schiffelly Puppets presenting “The Little Mermaid” at R.H. Stafford Library in Woodbury. A mystery under the sea? Something smells fishy to me. Join Ariel, King Triton, and other underwater friends as they try and teach the evil Ursula a lesson about bullying. Enjoy this family friendly parody of the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale filled with humor and plenty of audience participation. All ages welcome!
11 to 11:45 a.m.
Meet and learn about many new reptiles with the Reptile and Amphibian Discovery Zoo at Valley Library! This fun and interactive program is part of our monthly STEM Saturdays series. We are also kicking off the start of the Summer Adventure at Your Librar with games, crafts, chalk art and refreshments.
11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Slither into the world of reptiles by touching, holding, and even feeding some scaly critters at this fun program at Lake Elmo Library! Learn what makes reptiles unique and get an up-close look at some of nature’s most misunderstood creatures. You’ll even get to meet some of the reptiles you can find in your own backyard.
1 to 3 p.m.
Kick off the library's new Summer Adventure Program with games and activities, face painting, refreshments, a professional balloon artist, and more at Oakdale Library!
1:30 to 2 p.m.
One man, no words, gazillions of balls, pins, and lots of laughter! Join us at Wildwood Library for Chris Griffith’s hilarious mix of juggling and physical comedy that is equal parts ooh's, aah's and ha-ha-ha's.
