On March 3, Washington County Library staff took a tour of the new Wildwood Library. Staff with Washington County Building Services shared construction progress so far and highlighted what the finished space will look like.
The main entrance to the library opens to a wide space with floor-to-ceiling windows and ample natural light. The windows are tinted in areas to help prevent too much glare and heat during the sunniest parts of the day. The main area with stacks of books, computer terminals, and working spaces, will be carpeted and has a warm, wood paneled ceiling. Most of the library will be painted and decorated in shades of blue, green, and teal.
The circulation desk will be located just across from the main public entrance. Behind it, construction crews will be installing a large glass panel with a frosted image of “The Pippen” roller coaster and just adjacent will be a very distinguished two sided fireplace with an artistic tile design.
Wildwood Library will have areas designated for teens and children, where colors and patterns will pop in comparison to the cool tones of the rest of the library. The children’s area has large windows which will be equipped with electric shades that can be controlled with a remote control.
A large meeting room for programs and events will have glass walls, a 98” TV monitor, stackable chairs and other configurable furniture, as well as a large storage room to keep this equipment.
The library will have three additional conference rooms. Two rooms will have their own AV set up, and the third will have a rolling AV station with a 40” TV that can be moved and used in other areas of the library.
In addition, the library will have a quiet reading room with large windows and cozy chairs. The adjacent fireplace room will be have a number of different chairs and seating spaces to create a relaxed atmosphere with flexible use.
Wildwood Library will also have several outdoor areas. There will be a small front patio overlooking the street, and landscaping with flowers and natural grasses. In the back of the library, just off of the kids/teens area, there will be a back patio with solar charging benches and small garden space for future programming.
Construction at the library is still on schedule, with an expected opening date this summer.
