Renovations at Valley Library are on schedule, and staff are planning the logistics of moving into the new space and organizing an opening celebration in the new year. There are a few key dates over the next month for Valley Library users:
- December 18-20: Valley will be closed while we move to our new location next door at 384 St Croix Trail S, Lakeland.
- December 21: Valley will re-open with new hours.
- December 24-25: All Washington County Libraries will be closed for the holidays.
- January 11: Join us for an opening celebration at Valley Library!
What are Valley Library's new hours?
Beginning Saturday, December 21, Valley Library will have the following hours:
Sunday | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | Saturday |
Closed | 1 to 6 P.M. | 3 to 8 P.M. | 1 to 6 P.M.
| 1 to 6 P.M.
| Closed | 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. |
Why are the hours changing?
After reviewing visitor data, library staff found that afternoon and evening hours see heavier traffic at Valley Library, while morning hours and Fridays are significantly slower. In response, library hours at the new location will shift to offer more access to the library during the busiest times of the week. More evening hours also provide opportunities to use the new meeting rooms after school or work.
The total number of hours Valley Library is open each week will stay the same. Staff will continue to monitor visitor data and community response closely over the next six months and will reevaluate if needed.
What’s coming to Valley Library?
The new Valley Library space will be larger, with two meeting rooms, movable furniture, a children’s area with tiered seating for programs and storytimes. The space also has two accessible bathrooms with diaper-changing stations and an expanded staff work area.
