Washington County has planned for a $5 to $6 million renovation for the existing Park Grove Library facility in the most recent Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
The Board of Commissioners held a workshop to review a draft of the 2020-2024 CIP on Tuesday, October 15. The CIP outlines facilities, parks, road, and bond projects planned for the next five years.
In addition to planning a major renovation in 2022, the county has budgeted $50,000 in 2021 to develop a project plan for the renovation at Park Grove Library.
The full size and scope of the project will be determined in this analysis. The renovation at Park Grove Library will focus on improving energy efficiency and and developing spaces to meet community needs.
The CIP includes two other library projects:
- 2020: R.H. Stafford Library building study – Washington County has budgeted $50,000 in 2020 to participate in a study about improvements to Central Park in Woodbury. The City of Woodbury, YMCA, South Washington County School District and the County are collaborating to determine future needs for the building. The size and scope of the projects will be determined by the study in 2020. Construction of a potential project could be included in the 2022 bond.
- 2021: Oakdale Library building improvements – Washington County has budgeted $290,000 in 2021 for two major repairs at Oakdale Library. County staff expect that these repairs to the HVAC system and the roof cupolas will reduce operations and maintenance costs because they will improve ongoing efficiency and reduce maintenance service calls.
The CIP is currently open for public comment. There will be a public hearing on the CIP on December 10, after which the board will decide whether to officially adopt the five-year plan.
