On August 7, Washington County Library staff, along with other county and community partners, gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony at Wildwood Library.
The ceremony included remarks from Commissioners Stan Karwoski and Fran Miron, Mahtomedi Mayor Judson Marshall, and Library Director Keith Ryskoski.
Commissioners Karwoski and Miron both represent portions of Mahtomedi, as well as the adjacent communities of Willernie, Pine Springs, Grant, and Dellwood.
The city of Mahtomedi is a partner on the project, which includes a stormwater drainage route from a pond on the Wildwood Library lot to a main storm sewer along County State Aid Highway 12. This will improve stormwater drainage in the area.
Construction work on the planned 12,800 square foot building is expected to begin the week of August 19.
The new library will include a children's room and teen space, a patio, a large meeting room, three small study rooms, and space for outdoor programs. The new library will have improvements to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility, greater energy efficiency, expanded library program spaces, and an upgraded layout aimed to improve staff efficiency.
Watch Construction Online
Washington County has installed a camera at the Wildwood Library site to show construction progress. The camera will be in place until the library is complete in summer 2020.
