Most Popular Books 2018 Kids and Teens

We're continuing to close out the year with a look at the most popular titles of 2018! Today's we're looking at the books and series that were most popular with kids and teens this year. 

Teen Fiction

  1. Scythe by Neal Shusterman (231 checkouts)
  2. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (226 checkouts)
  3. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (219 checkouts)
  4. Turtles All the Way Down by John Green (216 checkouts)
  5. The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon (169 checkouts)
  6. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (168 checkouts)
  7. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (164 checkouts)
  8. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi (159 checkouts)
  9. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (155 checkouts)
  10. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (150 checkouts)
  11. The Selection by Kiera Cass (149 checkouts)

The teen list is a mix of new and old books, many that are also connect to recently released movies. It's interesting that The Hunger Games trilogy continues to be a popular a full decade after the first book in the series was published.

Juvenile Fiction

Our list of most popular checkouts of kids books was dominated by books that are part of ongoing series. To get a better idea of what Washington County kids (and, let's be real, their parents) are reading, we split the list into the five most popular series and the five most popular titles outside those series. Here's what we found:

  1. Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney (5,253 checkouts)
  2. Big Nate by Lincoln Pierce (3,719 checkouts)
  3. Dog Man by Dav Pilkey (1,599 checkouts)
  4. Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi (1,079 checkouts)
  5. Dork Diaries by Rachel Renée Russell (1,069 checkouts)

Most Popular Titles

  1. Sisters by Raina Telgemeier (468 checkouts)
  2. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling (401 checkouts)
  3. Wonder by R.J. Palacio (396 checkouts)
  4. The Pigeon Needs a Bath! by Mo Willems (366 checkouts)
  5. Claudia and Mean Janine by Ann M. Martin and Raina Telgemeier (356 checkouts)
