Washington County Library will set up (temporary) shop at the Forest Lake Arts in the Park events with its Pop Up Library this summer, June through August. Arts in the Park is a free summertime community event which takes place every Tuesday from 5 – 9 p.m.
Similar to a pop up retail store, the Washington County Pop Up Library brings library materials, technology, and services outside the walls of the library. Knowledgeable and friendly staff from Hardwood Creek Library will be on site at the Arts in the Park events for storytimes, library card registration, and crafts, in addition to answering any library questions visitors might have.
The Pop Up Library is also teaming up with two partners to support health and nutrition in Forest Lake. The Pop Up Library is supporting the Power of Produce (PoP) Club by featuring library materials about health and food for checkout, librarian lead storytimes, crafts, and activities throughout the summer. The PoP Club is a farmers markets incentive program for children offered at farmers markets throughout the nation July 10 – Aug. 28, and is funded through a grant from the University of Minnesota Extension and a donation from Health UP of Forest Lake. The Forest Lake YMCA will also join the library with health inspired activities on June 19, July 10, July 24, August 7, and August 21.
The Washington County Pop Up Library is the result of the one of the library's strategic initiatives. Programs like the Pop Up Library aim to connect the library with community partners and increase community outreach.
