Building for the Future: Wildwood Library

Posted on: March 26, 2018

[ARCHIVED] First community engagement meeting held for Wildwood Library

WW meeting 1-145

Approximately 15 interested community members attended the first community engagement meeting for Wildwood Library on March 19. Architects Jerry Hagen and Dan Lawrence of HCM Architects opened the meeting by sharing some information about the current building, including the issues with accessibility, water infiltration, and the current size. They then asked community members to share how they use the library, and what they’d like to see in a new library building.

Those at the meeting said they primarily use Wildwood Library to borrow materials, use meeting spaces, and utilize other resources like printers and copiers. Patrons appreciate the location for its walkability, and like interacting with the staff, other visitors, and displays to learn more about the community. Those who responded agreed that the library needs more seating and meeting spaces, as well as more spaces for programs.

At the next project meeting in April, staff with HCM Architects will share the results from all community engagement efforts (meetings, print and online surveys) to outline what the community priorities are, and use visuals to help get impressions of what patrons feel a future Wildwood Library could look like. The next community engagement meeting is planned for Monday, April 23 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in Room 103 at the District Education Center, 1520 Mahtomedi Avenue. Please RSVP to the event on Facebook for updates.
