Extended Access
Extended Access service is available at Valley Library in Lakeland. Extended Access allows you to use the library independently outside of regular staffed hours.
Extended Access is available every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. During Extended Access you can:
- Pick up holds and browse library materials,
- Use computers, printers, and other technology,
- Access meeting rooms for remote work or quiet studying,
- Learn together in the children’s area.
During Extended Access hours, scan your library card and enter your PIN at an entry panel to unlock the library. You can then independently use library resources such as books and other materials, computers and printers, meeting rooms, and toys.
Library staff will not be in the building during most Extended Access hours. If staff are around, they cannot answer questions or troubleshoot issues using library resources until regular open hours begin.
All regular library policies are in effect during Extended Access hours. Users are also expected to adhere to our Extended Access Policy.
Here are a few things to keep in mind while using Extended Access:
- Don’t hold or open the door for anyone. We need everyone participating in Extended Access to badge into the building.
- You may bring guests with you to the library, but you are responsible for their behavior. Children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult enrolled in Extended Access.
- Library staff may be working behind the scenes during your visit. Staff cannot assist you during Extended Access hours. Please save any questions until regular open hours.
- Cameras are recording in the library but are not actively monitored. In case of an emergency, please dial 911 on your cell phone, or use the emergency call box next to the Extended Access controller in the vestibule.
- Speaker announcements help mark transitions and the end of Extended Access hours each night. You are expected to follow all speaker and staff instructions.
All Washington County cardholders ages 16 and up can sign up for Extended Access. Teens ages 16 and 17 must have parental consent to participate in Extended Access.
